Performed by a physician Conservative, natural results

Two FDA-Approved Injectable Categories

Neuromodulators (Botox® / onabotulinumtoxinA)

Temporarily reduce the activity of targeted facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, the lines that form from repeated expressions like frowning, squinting, or raising your eyebrows. By softening these muscle movements, neuromodulators may help smooth the overlying skin for a more rested appearance while preserving natural expression.

Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers

Add volume, contour, and structural support to areas where age-related fat loss, collagen decline, or genetic features have left the face hollow, lined, or less defined. Unlike neuromodulators, fillers do not affect muscle movement. They physically replenish volume, often providing immediate, visible improvement.

Every injection is performed by Dr. Patel himself, an uncommon physician-led model built on facial-anatomy expertise, a conservative eye, and the ability to recognize and manage rare complications promptly.

What to Expect

1

Consultation

A private, one-on-one discussion with Dr. Patel covering your concerns, full medical history, current medications and supplements, and desired outcomes. New aesthetic patients are often advised to start conservatively and build gradually.

2

The Appointment

Most neuromodulator sessions take ~15-30 minutes; filler appointments ~30-60 minutes depending on areas treated. Dr. Patel uses ultra-fine needles or cannulas. A topical numbing agent is available, and many HA fillers contain lidocaine for added comfort.

3

After Your Visit

You can resume most daily activities immediately, with clear written aftercare. For neuromodulators, briefly avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, and lying flat. For fillers, avoid significant pressure or massage to treated areas for a few days.

Results & duration: Neuromodulator smoothing typically begins within ~3-7 days , with full results usually apparent by ~14 days , and effects generally lasting ~3-4 months . Dermal filler improvement is often visible immediately and may last ~6-18 months depending on the formulation, area, and individual metabolism . Results are individualized; no specific duration or outcome is guaranteed, and all procedures carry inherent risks.

Safety & Side Effects

Patient safety is the foundation of every treatment. Dr. Patel reviews your complete medical history, medications, and supplements before any injection.

Common, transient side effects

  • Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site
  • Minor bruising, which typically resolves within a few days
  • Temporary numbness or tenderness in the treated area

For neuromodulators

  • Temporary headache (uncommon, usually resolves within 24-48 hours)
  • Transient eyelid or brow ptosis (drooping) may occur within about two weeks; it is usually self-limited and may be treated with prescription eye drops

Boxed Warning (FDA)

Botulinum toxin products carry a boxed warning for the potential distant spread of toxin effect, which may cause symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, generalized muscle weakness, and, in rare cases, serious or life-threatening events. Seek immediate medical care for any such symptoms.

For dermal fillers

  • Temporary lumpiness or firmness that usually softens within days to weeks
  • Mild swelling, particularly in lip or under-eye treatments
  • Delayed-onset nodules, granulomas, or biofilm-related infections can appear weeks to months after treatment. Report any persistent swelling, pain, or hard lumps to your provider

Serious Vascular Complications, Seek Emergency Care

  • Inadvertent intravascular injection of filler is rare but serious. Warning signs include severe or increasing pain, skin that turns pale or dusky, or any change in vision. Vascular occlusion can lead to skin necrosis, scarring, retinal artery occlusion, or vision loss/blindness. Seek emergency medical care immediately for sudden vision changes, eye pain, or loss of sight.
  • Tear-trough caution: this area is supplied by the angular and infraorbital vessels; inadvertent intravascular injection here carries elevated risk of necrosis or vision loss and requires immediate hyaluronidase treatment and emergency referral.
  • Hyaluronidase, an enzyme that can dissolve hyaluronic acid filler, is available on-site for use in the event of vascular compromise or at patient request.

Contraindications & precautions (reviewed individually before any treatment)

  • Active skin infection or inflammation at the injection site
  • Known hypersensitivity to any product component (botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid, lidocaine, etc.)
  • Certain neuromuscular disorders (for neuromodulators)
  • Pregnancy, planned pregnancy, or breastfeeding
  • Oral isotretinoin (Accutane) use within the past 6 months: filler treatment is generally postponed to reduce delayed-healing and nodule risk
  • Warfarin, direct oral anticoagulants, aspirin, NSAIDs, or supplements that affect clotting may increase bruising, so disclose all medications and supplements
  • Recent dental extractions or active periodontal disease may increase infection risk; treatment may be delayed until healed

Candidacy

You may be a good candidate if you…

  • Are bothered by moderate to severe frown lines, forehead lines, or crow’s feet
  • Have noticed volume loss in the cheeks, temples, or under-eye area
  • Desire fuller or more defined lips
  • Want to soften nasolabial folds or marionette lines
  • Want a subtle, natural refresh, not a dramatic or “frozen” result
  • Understand that results are temporary and maintenance is required

Treatment is typically deferred if you… (individualized assessment required)

  • Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
  • Have an active skin infection or rash in the treatment area
  • Have a known allergy to any product component
  • Have certain neuromuscular disorders (for neuromodulator treatment)
  • Have taken oral isotretinoin within the past 6 months (for fillers)
  • Have expectations that treatment cannot address

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I look “frozen” or unnatural after neuromodulators?

When performed by an experienced physician who respects facial anatomy, neuromodulator treatment should not result in a frozen appearance. Dr. Patel uses conservative dosing and precise placement to soften lines while preserving your ability to express emotion naturally. Many patients simply report looking more rested.

Is there downtime after treatment?

Most patients resume normal activities immediately. You may have mild redness or small bumps at injection sites that fade within hours. For neuromodulators, avoid strenuous exercise, excessive heat, and lying flat for a few hours afterward. For fillers, avoid significant pressure or massage to treated areas for a few days.

How do I choose between Botox and fillers?

It depends on the concern. If your lines appear only when you move your face (dynamic wrinkles), a neuromodulator may be the primary tool. If you see lines or hollows at rest, or have lost volume, dermal fillers may be more appropriate. Often a combination yields the most harmonious result. Dr. Patel will guide you during your consultation.

Are the injections painful?

Discomfort is typically minimal. Neuromodulator injections feel like a quick pinch. For fillers, many products contain lidocaine and a topical numbing cream may be applied. Dr. Patel’s technique and use of the smallest appropriate needles help minimize sensation.

How long does a typical appointment take?

A neuromodulator session usually takes 15-30 minutes. A filler appointment may take 30-60 minutes, depending on the number of areas treated. Your initial consultation will be longer to allow for a thorough discussion and facial assessment.

Can I combine neuromodulators and fillers in one visit?

Yes, many patients address both dynamic lines and volume loss in a single appointment. Dr. Patel will determine whether a combined session is appropriate based on your treatment plan and anatomy.

What happens if I don’t like my results?

Neuromodulator effects are temporary and gradually wear off over several months. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme (hyaluronidase) in the event of an undesirable outcome or complication. Dr. Patel will discuss all options during your consultation.
